Description

The Glass House is delighted to be welcoming Jeremy Mainwaring-Burton for a special evening talk about The Queen Mother and the Castle of Mey. Jeremy has a unique insight into the subject, offering an illustrated talk that shouldn't be missed.

The Queen Mother bought the Castle of Mey after the King died in 1952. It was the only property she ever owned and she would spend every August there surrounded by members of her household and staff, and a number of young guests.

Jeremy first stayed there in the late 1970s on duty as the Queen Mother’s equerry and on many occasions thereafter as one of her guests. When she died in 2002 he was asked to help open the castle to the public and what was meant to be a six week appointment ended up lasting six years. As a result he has spent more time at the Castle of Mey than its royal owner ever did.

Jeremy’s skilfully illustrated talk is an amusing account of what it was like to stay at Mey, not only for those lucky enough to be invited as guests but also for their hostess.

Tickets includes a welcome glass of wine, beer or soft drink, and our bar will be open offering a selection of drinks.

Welcome drinks are served from 7:00pm, with the talk beginning at 7:30pm.
